Outdoor Adventure is proud to present its climbing facility to students, faculty, and the local community. The wall is
designed with eleven different sections allowing many climbers to ascend at one time. The wall is 35' high with two crack climbs and three roof sections,
and we also offer 150 square feet of climbing space in our bouldering cave. Outdoor Adventure welcomes climbers of all abilities.
First time at the wall? No problem. Our staff can help you get started and there are several beginner level routes that you can try. Experienced climber?
We've got you covered too, with many intermediate and advanced level routes for you to choose from. Really experienced? If you're up for an even bigger
challenge, ask the staff about our lead climbing classes and test your abilities in a whole new way.
The climbing wall and bouldering cave are designed with moveable hand and footholds, allowing the staff to manipulate the wall's appearance and offer new
climbing experiences throughout the year. Our route setters are constantly busy designing new routes to keep the wall fresh and challenging, so be sure
to stop by and see what's new!
The climbing wall is open from 8 a.m. to midnight on weekdays and 10am to 10pm on weekends. The wall is reserved for academic classes from 8am-12pm
Monday-Friday and for the Kids Climbing Club on Saturdays from 10am-1pm during the academic year, but climbers are welcome to use the bouldering
cave during those times. See the Colvin Center schedule for holiday hours. A certified staff member will be available when the wall is open, and can
assist you with any questions about the climbing wall, our great trips programs, and anything else related to Outdoor Adventure.
How to start climbing at Outdoor Adventure
- To start to climb you can...
Come as a guest ($6 guest fee) and boulder or climb on the wall, but you cannot belay anyone.
- Attend a two-hour certification class offered Tuesdays 4:20-6:20pm or Thursdays 6-8pm that will teach you the basics of climbing and belaying
at our wall. The class costs $55, which covers the certification class and a one year climbing membership beginning the date of your class. You
can pay by cash, check, credit card, or by charging it to your bursar.
- Recertify after your year-long certification expires by paying $55 and asking a staff member to recertify you.
Things to Know...
- The certification class is required for all climbers.
- Shoes are required. No barefoot climbing.
- You may use your own tennis shoes or rent climbing shoes from the OA desk.
- Shoe rental is $3 each time you climb. You can also buy a shoe rental account with 10 rentals ($20), 20 rentals ($40), or 30 rentals ($60).
- Stillwater Summit has great deals on climbing equipment when you are ready to buy your own!
- A climbing harness can be checked out from the attendant at the desk free of charge.
- If you have your own climbing gear it must be approved by the attendant in charge. No grigris are allowed at the wall.
- When Bouldering, having a spotter is highly encouraged, so bring your friends!
