Hunter Harris
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
|
Hunter is a PhD student in Management at OSU and a 3rd generation Cowboy having also done his undergrad here.
He was born and raised in San Antonio, TX, but followed his family tradition to attend OSU. He also holds two masters degrees,
one from Cornell and the other from Wake Forest. He is married to Kelly, who he met at OSU during their senior year,
and has an 11 month old daughter named Scarlett.
Hunter began his BJJ training in 2005. He is a striped blue belt under Luiz Palhares, a sixth degree black belt under Rickson Gracie.
Luiz is a 3 time Pan Am Champion and Brazilian National Champion. Hunter has competed in and won BJJ tournaments including the Nashville
Open in the light heavyweight and open weight Gi division.
Luiz and his lead co-instructor, Jeremy Akin who is also a black belt, keep closely in contact with him to ensure his continued progression
and quality of teaching. They insist, and I agree, that teaching is one of the very best ways to self evaluate and significantly improve at
just about anything you do. Successful teaching is one of the final requirements set by Luiz and Jeremy before Hunter earns his purple belt.
