These classes are available for members of the Colvin Recreation Center.

*Classes that are marked with (*) indicate a dance class that costs an additional $40 per semester. Argentine Tango is an additional $60. Please pay and register at the Colvin Recreation Business office. They are open for both students and faculty/staff. Not all classes are offered every semester. Check current schedule for availability.

Abs/Core - There's more to working the core than the basic crunch! This quick but effective class will target your abdominals, transverse abs, obliques, and lower back as well as improve posture, stabilization & balance with a variety of core exercises.

Absolutely Abs - This class is already a favorite of many students who want to tone and strengthen the abdominals.

"AfroBeat" - Come join Olu, founder of "Afro-Beat" at OSU and former F.I.T. instructor as he gladly shares the treasures of African rhythmic heritage. Physical balance, discipline and stamina are acquired via traditional West African drumming.

Afternoon Balance Yoga - a combination of yin and yang yoga to balance your practice.

Aikido - Morikei Ujeshiba synthesized the art of Aikido from movements of the Japanese sword, staff, spear arts and empty handed Ju Jit Su. Aikido is unique in its gentle nature and lack of competitive atmosphere. Aikido employs sensitivity, balance and timing, with all techniques performed with minimum force while maintaining maximum efficiency.

Argentine Tango - Learn the Latin flare to tango and rumba with the best of music

Ashtanga Yoga - this method of yoga involves synchronizing the breath with progressive series of postures. The result can be improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind.

Aqua Aerobics - This aerobic class incorporates a variety of exercises ranging from running to Jumping jacks in the deep water. Belts are provided for floatation. Toning and calisthenics both with and without water weight are conducted to increase muscle tone and strength.

Aqua Box - Enjoy a great cardio workout while taking advantage of being in the cool water of a pool. New class!

*Ballet - Begining/Intermediate - This class is for those who wish to learn more about ballet and improve their technique, utilizing the barre, floor work focusing on technique and conditioning, eventually incorporating new styles and combinations.

*Ballroom Dance - This class, intended for couples, is to make you feel comfortable with most of the dances practicable in a common ballroom dance night. Experience international moves like English waltz, rumba, cha-cha-cha, jive, samba, salsa and more! Come dance with professionally trained instructors that have competed internationally with these moves!

BASICS - Have you ever been somewhere and felt like you weren't comfortable? We want you to feel "at home" while working out at the Colvin. Sign up for one of the times offered and learn the ins and outs of cardio equipment and weight machines.

Belly Dance - This fun and flirty dance class will have you twisting and shaking while you learn the graceful art of belly dancing. Also available in a class just for beginners!

*Bharatanatyam - Come join in learning an art form in dance from India. This class is great for beginners.

Body Pump - Pump up those energy levels with Bekah or Jennifer while being led through an effective strength training workout.

BOSU Ball - this class incorporates the use of the BOSU Sport Balance Trainer to give you a total workout. While you are getting stronger and more fit, you can also improve your balance, coordination and body awareness.

Boxing - Get into the ring and learn the basics of the boxing fighting style. Focus on technique and strength and master the skills while learning a great method of self-defense.

Cardio Kick - a moderate to high intensity cardiovascular workout that leaves the bags behind while you punch, kick, and work through combinations or interval drills to kick your workout up a notch!

Cardio Kickboxing - Stressed out? This is a great workout that uses fun music, gets your heart pumping, builds strength, increases flexibility, and best of all -- uses the bags! Kick and punch your stress away with this high-energy workout that uses martial arts basics to really work up a sweat. No experience required, just come a few minutes early to wrap your hands. Club Fit - do you just need a little encouragement and accountability to stay involved in exercise and healthy habits? This program is for you. Applications are available at the Customer Service Desk & online and we will choose participants after 9/8.

Core 'n More - Enjoy a class that incorporates cardio with strength training while concentrating on the core muscles.

*Country Western Dance - learn all of the great techniques behind this fun and unique style of dance! The basic two step, line dances, and other great ways to move and groove like a country boy.

CPR/First Aid - Course content consists of video presentations, lecture, and practice by participants. In order to receive certification, you will need to be able to perform specific skills competently and pass a written exam with a score of 80% or higher.

Dance Carribean - Former F.I.T. instructor, Olu, is delighted to again share with you the African rhythms, tropical melodies and popular dances of the Caribbean.

Fitness Orientation - Have you ever been somewhere and felt like didn't fit in and weren't invited? Don't ever feel like a "Colvin Crasher". Sign up and get acquainted with the cardio machines, free weights, and weight machines. Get familiar with all aspects of the Colvin by attending our orientation and finally feel at home in the gym

Flex 'n Flexibility - come learn to lift and stretch, strengthen and lengthen those muscles. A good workout for people who aren't wanting a cardiovascular class.

Gentle and Prenatal Yoga - Restorative yoga practice, focusing on letting go and allowing the body to relax and open up. We will start out with gentle flowing practice to warm up the muscles and will then gently move through asanas that will relax the mind and body. This class is open to everyone, and is safe for pregnant women.

Happy Hour Yoga - This invigorating all-levels yoga class will combine asana flow with deep relaxation and pranayama (breathing exercises). Newbies will gain an understanding of yoga fundamentals and alignment and more seasoned practitioners can explore the deeper variations in this upbeat and nurturing environment.

Hatha Yoga - yoga that is practiced for mental and physical health in the West.

*Hip Hop - Get Funky and groove your way to a better body! Learn cool new dances as you burn away unwanted calories. Have fun, let loose, and shake your caboose.

Hip Hop Hustle - So, you think you CAN'T dance? This class is a completely pre-designed hip-hop dance class that's easy to follow, allowing you to relax and take the fun factor up a notch with super hot moves that will have everyone wanting more! NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!!

Intermediate Yoga Blend - This class combines meditation and deep relaxation with asana work, including sun salutations, hip openers, back bends, basic inversions, twists, and more. Pranayama (breathing exercises), proper alignment, and chakra fundamentals will be explored, so regular attendance is expected.

Intro to Spin - Brand new to Spin? Never tried a class? Attend this class to learn the fundamentals of indoor cycling, and correct bike setup, so you can be successful in your regular weekly Spin classes.

*Jazz Dance- Beginning - This class will cover the basics of jazz dance: Warm-up, Isolations, Stretching, walking combinations, and simple turns. No dance experience required.

Ju Jit Su and Kickboxing - A cardiovascular workout, but also an excellent form of self-defense. Various forms of striking and grappling are used to defend oneself.

Kickboxing - Begin to learn this great technique to achieve a satisfying workout and an excellent form of self-defense. Come learn the basics of this popular style of martial arts.

Lunchtime Yoga - Been sitting at a desk all week? Come relax and recharge your mind, body, and spirit through gentle and flowing yoga poses and guided relaxation in a peaceful and nurturing environment.

*Lyrical Dance - This style of dance is a contemporary blend of jazz and ballet. Class will progress with several lyrical-style dances over the time of the session.

*Massage Therapy - Make an appointment for a relaxing, swedish, deep tissue massage from one of our liscensed therapists. Refer to our massage pamphlet or call 744-5510 for more information.

Morning Bliss Yoga - Gentle practice to wake up, refresh, and center the mind and body with basic asanas (poses), sun salutations, and guided meditation. Start your day with a healthy dose of positive energy and see how good you feel!

On-the-ball - A total body strengthening program that utilizes the stability ball in addition to other various resistance equipment to tone and strengthen the entire body.

Personal Fitness Trainer Certification - join the fatest growing segment in the fitness industry. The 2-day NETA Personal Trainer Certification includes 14 hours of lecture, demonstrations and practical hands-on applications. This extensive workshop is designed for people with some fitness experience. Written exam and National Certification (valid for 2 years). Register online at www.NETA fit.org.

*Personal Training - we offer one on one, or buddy training to help get you in shape!

Pilates - Joseph Pilates used various techniques to strengthen the core muscles of the body. Through practicing these movements, you can learn body awareness, good posture, and easy movement. It also increases flexibility and agility.

PiYo - a blend of Pilates and Yoga

Power Pilates - a class that uses pilates to empower and strengthen the body. It can awaken awareness of the body and improve flexibility.

Power Yoga - This method of Yoga involves synchronizing the breath with progressive series of postures. The result can be improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind. This class is best suited for intermediate to advanced participants.

Partner Yoga - come with a partner for a fun-filled class and develop greater trust, stability, and strength by practicing postures together.

Prenatal Yoga - maintain the health and connection between your mind, body, and baby

Pump & Tone - Strengthen and tone the entire body head to toe, including the core, utilizing a variety of equipment. This class uses no choreography, but simple and effective cardio moves are occasionally used to keep heart rate up throughout this body sculpting class.

*Salsa Dance - this class concentrates on building the cultural awareness and dance elements necessary to dance Salsa anywhere in the world. Originating from Cuba, Salsa is the fastest growing dance in the US and the world. Allow yourself a class for maximum self expression while enjoying a shared experience with your partner. The most fun you can have in 60 minutes!

SCUBA - offer NAUI (National Association of Underwater Instructors) Open Water Certification Certification classes. The Pirate's Cove Scuba SHOP out of Oklahoma City sends certified instructors to teach the classes.

Solely Step - "Only" step - no weights or ab work involved in this class for the step purist.

Spin - A great low-impact workout! Your instructor will guide you over a variety of terrain with several modes of training styles: Strength, Endurance, and Interval training. Every ride is your ride, so you have the ability to adjust your intensity making this class great for beginners AND advanced cyclists alike! Space IS limited, so please pick up your spin number starting 30 min. prior to class from the customer service desk to reserve your space!

Stepography - In this class Angela will aid you by using the step and complex choreography to work your mind as well as your body.

Step-n-Box - a great combination of step and kickboxing with lots of energy and fun!

Step-n-Pump - A classic class, carefully crafted and intensity-layered for a wide variety of fitness enthusiasts, from step-starters to the step-fit. Included are sections of toning the body, and abdominal work.

Stillcenter Yoga - This class works to develop the physical body with strength, stamina and flexibility; the emotional body with stability, confidence and discernment; the mental body with awareness, concentration and focus. The result is physical, emotional, and mental tranquility, enabling one to completely relax while feeling strong, confident and aware. Focus on waking up from the inside out.

Swim Lessons - learn the basics or build on your technique to improve your stroke. One on one instruction is available by filling out an application at the kiosk.

Sunrise/Sunset Yoga - A Vinyassa Flow Style Yoga designed to improve the health, performance, and mental acuity of individuals interested in improving their level of fitness. Based on the ancient fitness science of hatha yoga, it blends balance, strength, flexibility and power in a fitness format. We will overcome the mystery of yoga by delivering a practical, user-friendly style, which is accessible, understandable, and doable by individuals at any level of fitness.

Tae Kwon Do - teaches the discipline of Korea's national martial art. The class focuses on kicking, punching, blocking, self defense, sparring, forms, heavy bag training, board breaking, and optional tournament competition. This class also emphasizes learning the 5 tenets of Tae Kwon Do: Self Control, Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, and an Indomitable Spirit.

Tai Chi - This martial art originated in China nearly one thousand years ago. Today the art is practiced around the world by millions of people. For centuries, evidence has shown that Tai Chi has many benefits as a form of exercise and meditation for developing physical strength and mental balance.

Tennis - come work in a small group with an instructor to learn and/or fine tune your tennis playing skills. Lots of individual training and attention is given in this early morning class.

The Long Ride - Stretch out your time on the road by attending our longer 60-minute ride! Bump your fitness level up one step and train your body for those long journeys.

Total Body Workout - Challenge your endurance with the cardio segment before incorporating resistance equipment.

Turbo Kick ® - The hottest kickboxing class around! TurboKick is an addictive workout that combines athletic moves, kickboxing, and hip-hop flavor in a party atmosphere. Turbo Kick® is an interval based class that allows participants of any fitness level to participate. Each new workout is more exciting, sexy, powerful and effective than the last! Come join the party!

Weights for Women - learn the basics of weight training for women in a non-intimidating atmosphere.

Yin Yoga - Focus is on letting go and stretching the connective tissues in the body rather than the muscles. Supported asanas are held in a very relaxed and meditative manner for 3 to 5 minutes. This is an excellent class for encouraging flexility and deep relaxation.

YogaFit - is designed to improve the health, performance, and mental acuity of persons interested in improving their level of fitness. It blends balance, strength, flexibility, and power in a fitness format.

Zumba ® - A total body workout with cardio conditioning in a Latin flavor. It's so much fun that you don't even realize that you are working out! Fusing hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic workout system that will blow you away.
